A Different Drum Update - May 20th, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 10:07 am

Hello once again from A Different Drum!   I have a few new releases here that I’d like to tell you about, so let’s go…

NEW ARRIVALS:

Zynic “Fire Walk With Me” $20 — This is an excellent new synthpop act imported from Germany with strong production and catchy, smooth vocals.   They stand as one of the new bands to watch and will appeal to fans of the 90’s synthpop underground as well.   Listen to one of their songs and order the CD here :

Hurts “Sunday” (MCD) $11 — The blitz of hit singles continues to move forward with Hurts.  This latest single is for the collectors, featuring the title track plus a bonus song “Live Like Horses”.   For those of us who are anxious for a new album, this will have to keep us content a bit longer.   Watch the music video and order the single here :

Galaxy Hunter “Walk On Water - Spacesynth Odyssey” (2CD) $20 — This is a band that has touched on synthpop sounds from 30 years ago, playing a combination of instrumental “spacesynth” music as well as Italo Disco flavored vocal tunes.   Well, this newest release is imported from Poland and features two CD’s which nicely cover both dimensions    There is a disc of vocal laden tunes, and another disc with the instrumental stuff including a few tracks from their previous albums.   You can watch a music video for one of the songs and order the 2CD here :

Various Artists “Electropop 6″ $18 — The compilations in this series continue to come out at a steady pace, always featuring some of the latest synthpop tunes from around the world in exclusive remixes and extended versions.   You’ll find some bands that you know as well as many that you don’t.   There are tracks by acts like Mooger, I Hate This Place, Oblique, Vangard, etc.  So, explore the latest in synthpop and order the CD here :

Various Artists “Radio Fresh 80’s” (2CD) $26 — This new import compilation has quite a number of the “unusual” songs from the 80’s.  We’ve all seen the sets that have the same old hits over and over again, but how many are there with artists like these?   I haven’t even heard of some of them!  I like the inclusion of P4F (Propaganda for Frankie) which blended the excellent songs “P. Machinery” with “Relax” as well as the classic track “Jabdah” by spacesynth pioneers KOTO.  Check out the unique track list yourself and order the 2CD here :

I haven’t quite updated the radio player with a couple new songs from the above releases, but I’ll get that done during the day today so you can kick back and listen to fresh new music.  Of course, I wouldn’t mind if you purchased CD’s by the bands you enjoy after listening :-)

A Different Drum Update - May 11th, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 1:49 pm

Hello, this is Todd at A Different Drum.  I hope that this update finds you well.   It’s been more than 2 weeks since the last update.  There’s a reason for the silence…I haven’t seen too many new releases come in for a while.  There are several “on the way” but they are taking a long time to hit my doorstep.  So, I’m going to go ahead and talk about the two new releases that HAVE arrived…

NEW ARRIVALS:

Toxic-N-Blue “Charm Noir” $20 — I’ve had previous limited edition CD singles in from this German act, and now we have the full album.  It reminds me of a lot of the 90’s synthpop releases that came out of Germany, with touches of Beborn Beton, Blind Passengers, and old And One, etc.   It is worth checking out if you enjoy the sound.    You can listen to a track on the video presentation, and order the CD here :

Also, listen to a track on the synthpop radio player here :

Various Artists “Trinity” $18 — This is actually a cool collaboration concept CD out of Russia.  It features three bands covering each others’ songs– Mechanical Apfelsine, Purple Fog Side, and Haloed Ghost.   This is a limited, numbered edition and has some nice stuff for the synthpop collector.    Order the CD here :

Also, listen to a track on the synthpop radio player here :

Also, feel free to revisit the “Discount Bin” part of the store if you haven’t been there lately.  You may find some clearance items there which would be very welcome in your CD collection.   These are typically items that won’t be back in stock once they are gone.  See what you can get cheap here :

VIP SUBSCRIBER NEWS:

Just a quick piece of info for the VIP Subscribers who support the limited edition CD’s from A Different Drum’s label…

You should all be receiving the release from April, if you haven’t already.  Those were shipped some days ago.   I think that AvantGarde album turned out quite delightful and the subscribers are going to have it in their physical CD collection.

The May release will be the new album “Berlin Sky” by INTUITION.   This third studio album is a true gem.   It has been waiting in the wings for a CD release for a couple of years.  The band decided to put it out digitally, and you can buy it as a download already through Bandcamp here :  http://intuitionmusic.bandcamp.com/album/berlin-sky

But of course the VIP’s will have a limited edition CD of the album– only 300 worldwide!

If you are a current subscriber (or somebody looking into the program) I’d be interested in your feedback on an idea.  I’m wondering if VIP’s would be interested in upping the monthly fee a bit if we added a limited edition remix single or EP every two months as an extra collectors’ item.  I’ve always loved the idea of singles, but they are obviously only interesting for collectors.   Let me know what you think.
