A Different Drum Update - June 28th, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 12:00 pm

It is time for another quick update from A Different Drum!  There is a nice little pile of CD’s that came into the store this week, so let us have a look!

NEW ARRIVALS:

Absent One “Blowback” $20 — This new import from Russia is a fun, edgy synthpop album that has a lot of energy.   There are several Youtube clips you can watch of live performances in Russia (see the songs “Night” and “Important”, etc.).   Listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SPR108/Absent-One-Blowback

Jens Bader “Climax” $16 — Jens has put out frequent new albums the last few years, but without sacrificing any quality. His song writing is always interesting and very personal, and the sound is becoming more and more like Pet Shop Boys, in my opinion.  This new album continues a nice streak.  You can listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/Jens2010/Jens-Bader-Climax

Purple Fog Side “Music for Indigo Kids” $20 — We had the previous album by this Russian band in stock before,  and though it took a while, I got a few of this newer release.  This one features edgy music with a combination of growling, male vocals, and dreamy, floating female leads.   It has more appeal to the fans of darker electro and industrial dance, with a semi-gothic tone.  You can order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SPR086/Purple-Fog-Side-Music-For-Indigo-Kids

IAMX “Dogmatic Infidel Comedown OK (Remixes)” $15 — IAMX has become a popular icon in both the synthpop market as well as the new generation of new wavers and indie pop kids.  With a flashy style and dramatic flare, it is easy to become a fan.  This new remix collections features previously unreleased versions that collectors and DJ’s will enjoy.  See the track list and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET650/IAMX-Dogmatic-Infidel-Comedown-OK-Remixes

Suicidal Romance “Shattered Heart Reflections” $15 — This is a very cool new act that combines a melodic female lead vocalist with some raspy male background vocals and energetic synthpop / semi-futurepop music.   They made quite a splash in Europe and have thus been licensed to Metropolis Records for the USA.    You can order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET656/Suicidal-Romance-Shattered-Heart-Reflections

Edge of Dawn “Anything That Gets You Through the Night” $15 — This side-project of Seabound has become a steady seller to the industrial dance audience.    You can order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET664/Edge-of-Dawn-Anything-That-Gets-You-Through-the-Night

A Kiss Could Be Deadly “Farewell” (CDEP) $8 — This new EP features some new songs and remixes from a band that clearly draws on the old new wave sound that blends fun rock and synth sounds with a cool female lead vocalist.   They sound to me like somebody who could have had top charting hits in the 80’s with a modern new edge.  You can check out some of their stuff on Youtube.    Order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET654/A-Kiss-Could-Be-Deadly-Farewell

ANYTHING BOX in Minneapolis:

Anything Box has never played a show in Minneapolis, but it is coming soon!

On September 11th, 2010
Tickets go on sale July 10th at www.brownpapertickets.com

Opening bands are Thought Thieves and Duck Duck Punch.  Special guest DJ is Paul Robb from Information Society!

That’s all for this week.  Thanks for your support!

A Different Drum Update - June 16th, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 1:08 pm

I already sent out an email a few days ago mentioning these items, but now I’ve added a few sound clips and am getting more organized.   So, here’s what we have in the store from last week:

NEW ARRIVALS:

Various Artists “Transmission - 30 Years Without Ian Curtis - Tribute to Joy Division” $20 — This new imported tribute to Joy Division (later New Order) features cover tracks from darkwave bands like Clair Obscur, Collection D’Arnell-Andrea, Femme Fatale, Opera Multi Steel, and more.   It is not particularly “synthpop”, but more chilled, with a somewhat gothic tinge, fitting to the material, which includes classics like “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, “Ceremony”, “She’s Lost Control”, etc.   You can see the track list and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/FIN056/Various-Artists-Transmission-30-Years-Without-Ian-Curtis-Joy-Division-Tribute

John Foxx “Metatronic” (2CD+DVD) $26 — John Foxx is a new wave icon from the 80’s and a pioneer of the synthpop sound.  This new release features some great classics, plus a previously unreleased live album, plus a DVD packed with clips from his long history.   See the complete track list and order this set here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/EDSX3009/John-Foxx-Metatronic-2CD-with-DVD

Massiv in Mensch “Hands On Massiv” $16 — This is a collection of pounding remixes of tracks from the futurepop / industrial dance act Massiv in Mensch.  The first couple of mixes are from the band themselves, bringing in a very trancey, club-friendly sound.  Other remixes come courtesy of acts like Individual Totem, Epsilon Minus, Headscan, Implant, etc.   Listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/AD-HUN-26-EP/Massiv-in-Mensch-Hands-on-Massiv-The-Remixes

TourdeForce “Colours In Life” $20 — Here is the debut full-length album from Europe that features bouncy, melodic synthpop tunes from a band that is winning attention in the scene.    The songs alternate from female to male lead vocals for a nice variety in sound.    You can listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/BR03/TourDeForce-Colours-In-Life

Mt Sims “Happily Ever After…Again” $20 — This is an interesting import from Punch Records, Italy.   It sounds like a lost album from the 80’s new wave, post punk era, fitting in with The Cure or Joy Division.  You hear a blend of synths and guitars and the whiny, melancholy vocals that create a raw buy effective mood.   But you know, it actually IS a re-release, thus the “again” in the album title.  But I don’t know when it was originally released.  Maybe it was the 80’s?   Listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/PUNCH020/Mt-Sims-Happly-Ever-After-Again

Sinessence “Thrillseeker” $20 — This is a new release from Caylx Records, Germany featuring new, gritty electronic tunes from an ex-member of the band Terminal Choice.   The vocals are edgy with plenty of angst, and the music is thick and intense.   This one should appeal to fans of the industrial-synthpop crossover stuff similar to what we often hear from Metropolis Records.  Check out the audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/CR033/Sinessence-Thrillseeker

Welle Erdball “Operation Zeitsturm” (CD+DVD) $26 — Definitely one of the most bizarre electronic pop bands from Germany, these guys are always coming up with something new and different.   Well, this time it is a new movie, with a soundtrack CD.   You can watch the movie trailer and order the soundtrack and DVD combo from here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SPV67617/Welle-Erdball-Operation-Zeitsturm-Soundtrack-and-Film-CD-and-DVD

Welle Erdball “Operation Zeitsturm” (CD+2DVD) $36 — Or, if you’d like the deluxe edition with the bonus DVD, you can order it here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SPV67618-d/Welle-Erdball-Operation-Zeitsturm-Deluxe-Soundtrack-CD-with-2-DVD-Film-and-Bonus

Various Artists “Electronic Body Music” $20 — This new compilation features some highlights from the EBM underground that is recently springing back to life.   The compilation features tracks from some of the pioneers of this sub-genre like Front 242 and Cabaret Voltaire, along with newcomers like Spetsnaz, Dupont, and Container 90.   You can see the track list and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/OUT408/Various-Artists-Electronic-Body-Music

Well, that’s all so far.  I should have some more new releases in stock soon, in which case, I’ll probably tweet about them first on Twitter, and then send out an update :-)

Have a great day!

CD Box Auctions and new Leiahdorus CD

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 10:30 am

Hey, this is Todd at A Different Drum.  I’m sending out this quick email message to remind folks that the 68-CD boxes (technically, more discs than that if you count the double-disc releases) which are listed on EBay for a VERY low bundle price only have 2 days left of bidding.

You can find those three identical boxes at these addresses if you’d like to pick up a great deal on a lot of music:

Box 1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180514840083

Box 2
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180514842161

Box 3
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180514846101

I’ve had a few questions about these box sets, so I’ll answer here.  You can see the exact titles by looking closely at the photo…at least enough to see if they are CD’s you already have or not. OK, well a couple got cut off on the edges.  Anyway…   See a close-up of the photo here if you want :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/CDBox.jpg

Concerning the shipping– they are shipped exactly as specified, in a flat-rate priority mail box.  I won’t break them up into smaller packages because it will cost more to ship that way.  I won’t repackage them into a larger box with padding because that again increases the price of shipping a lot.   They are new CD’s in perfect condition, and will be shipped as specified– if any jewel cases get cracked by the postal service along the way, that’s the nature of the beast.  It’s still an awesome, cheap deal even if you have to buy a couple of new jewel cases in the end.

NEW LEIAHDORUS CD:

I mentioned in the last update that I’d be getting the new Leiahdorus “Ode to the Builders” album in stock this week.  It did arrive and I’ve shipped the orders that were already placed.  If you’d like to check out the newly posted audio samples and order the CD, then go here and enjoy :

NEW MONOLITHIC DIGITAL RELEASE:

For those of you who are interested in music by Monolithic / Midihead, you can check out the new download EP now available at this address :

Thanks for your support, and have a wonderful weekend!
