A Different Drum Update - April 24th, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 11:38 am

Hello friends of A Different Drum and fans of cool, electronic pop music!  It’s time for a quick update to look at some new arrivals in the store.

However, first I’d like to start with a little disclaimer:   If you are currently waiting for a back-ordered import CD from Europe, or a cool new European arrival, please have patience.  As you have undoubtedly heard, a volcanic eruption has set back air travel from Europe for several days now, and I’m reminded by the postal office regularly that any packages coming from or going to Europe will take a lot longer than usual to arrive.   That also means that you folks in Europe who recently placed orders at A Different Drum will be waiting longer for those orders to arrive as transportation gets back to normal.   Thanks for your patience!

NEW ARRIVALS:

Parralox “Isn’t It Strange” (MCD) $12 — This is the next in line of absolutely LOADED CD singles from Australia’s cool electro-pop act, Parralox.  They usually fill these things up, and this one is no exception.   There are eight different versions of the title track, plus enough bonus tracks to take the total up to 15 track!   It plays out as long as an album!   You can see the complete track list and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/CRCDPLOX04/Parralox-Isnt-It-Strange

Vision Talk “Elevation” $18 — This is the 2nd album from the Swedish synthpop act, Vision Talk.   Their first album, “Dirty Italo Disco” was a great seller here at A Different Drum.   People seem to enjoy their retro-style blend of synthpop and Italo disco with a vocalist that reminds me a lot of the Swedish synthpop super-group from the 90’s, S.P.O.C.K.    This new release also features a bonus disc loaded with remixes and demo versions of newer and older songs.   See the track list, listen to samples, and order the double-disc here :

Elevated Sins “Myth” $8 — This new act from the Chicago area recently released a debut album entitled “Blue” with a somewhat melancholy, yet melodic sound.   Now you can check out this cool single that features six versions of the title track, including remixes by Cosmicity and A Blue Ocean Dream, plus a couple bonus tracks that include a cover version of “Tesla Girls”.   See the complete track list and order this collectible CD single here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/BNDPCD05/Elevated-Sins-Myth

FP “Arrive” (CD-R) $12 — This German synthpop act has been hanging out in the underground for several years, releasing some nice, classic synthpop material that we’ve had in A Different Drum’s store from time to time.   I managed to get a few copies of their limited edition single which is packed with 12 tracks including remixes and extra bonuses.   I only have a few, so if you’re a collector, then order right away.   See the track list and order here :

Thanks so much for your support!   I’ll be back soon with more new arrivals, once the ash all settles and shipments start coming through again :-)

You can now pre-order the new CD album by WAVE IN HEAD which will begin shipping at the end of this month!   If you pre-order now, it will ship the moment it arrives from the factory.

WAVE IN HEAD “The Voice In Me” $12 — Wave in Head has been a staple in the synthpop community for several years, and this fourth studio album displays all of the crisp production and well crafted songwriting that you would expect from an experienced electronic artist. The album thematically explores different sides of self-discovery, the meaning of life, and love.  Listen to audio samples and pre-order the CD here :

Just as a reminder, this sale has two purposes:  1) giving you an opportunity to pick up some great deals while spending your US federal tax return.  2)  To help me get some cash to pay my taxes before the due date on April 15th.

Have a wonderful weekend, and thanks for your friendship and support!

A Different Drum Update - April 7th, 2010 - TAX DAY SALE

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 12:27 pm

Hello from A Different Drum!   I hope you are all having a fabulous week so far.   I have three new releases to talk about in today’s update, and I’m kicking off the annual “TAX DAY SALE” since April 15th (due date for US federal income tax returns) is fast approaching!  So…

Get a 15% discount on all CD’s ordered, excluding new releases!
Get extra discounts…for a total of 30% off all label releases from A Different Drum, excluding new releases!

The prices you see on the homepage are the usual prices, but once you go into “checkout” with your shopping cart, you’ll see the discount applied.

Plus, I added a few more items to the “$3 CD Store” which you can see here :

http://www.adifferentdrum.com/threedollars.php

Other specials may be added in the next few days approaching tax day.  Gotta turn some inventory into cash, if you know what I mean.

NEW ARRIVALS:

Munich Syndrome “Electronic Ecstasy” $15 — The last Munich Syndrome album, “Electro Pop” became a hot seller on A Different Drum’s homepage.   People loved the band’s old-school electronic sound, robot vocals, and kraftwerk-esque approach.   This new album picks off where the last one left off with more melodic synths and processed, mechanical vocals.   The melodies are perhaps even more prominent this time, and some of the songs more uptempto, hinting at a “spacesynth” crossover sound.    Check out the audio samples and pick up the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SS005/Munich-Syndrome-Electronic-Ecstasy

SD6 “Between Noise and Transmission” $14 — Here is a cool new act from the Seattle area, playing an edgy synthpop sound with a blend of pounding club beats.  They blend male vocals with some female vocals as well and have solid production backing them up.   They are released on the 23DB label which is a project of Assemblage 23.   Check out the audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/23DB-2304/SD6-Between-Noise-and-Transmission

Various Artists “Modern Synthpop Compilation Volume 1″ $14 — This new compilation from BND Productions reminds me of the fun sounds and musical discovery of the mid 90’s synthpop scene.   Back then, compilations were the main tool used to discover new artists in the underground, and they were often the best-selling CD’s in A Different Drum’s young store.   This new collection features a few acts you’ve probably heard of before, like Syrian, Rupesh Cartel, or Blind Faith and Envy.  But it also features a nice selection from bands you probably have not discovered yet.   They sound sometimes has that “homemade” flavor, which was also part of the appeal of the raw synthpop that was coming out in the 90’s.   You can order this new CD here :

UPCOMING SHOW IN DENVER:

Thanks again for your support!   Even though the demand for this kind of music business seems to be dying out year by year, I’ll always have the friends and memories that have made it fun for so long.  You all have helped make this a rewarding adventure!

Thanks,
Todd
