A Different Drum Update - March 25th, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 10:48 am

Well, it is a fun week for synthpop here at A Different Drum!  There are some new releases in by some very cool bands.  Check it out!

NEW ARRIVALS:

De/Vision “Popgefahr” $15 — The new album from one of synthpop’s favorite bands is now here!   Do I need to say more?  Order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET641/De-Vision-Popgefahr

De/Vision “Popgefahr” (Limited Edition Fan Box) $88 — I managed to get a couple extra copies of the limited edition “fan box” of the new album.  There are only 1500 worldwide and it includes a bonus promo CD single, a flash drive with the album and extra bonus tracks as digital files.   All in a pretty box with extra packaging.   Order it here while it lasts :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/POP003-2/De-Vision-Popgefahr-Limited-Fan-Box

Mind.In.A.Box “RETRO” $15 — This is one of the bands from the futurepop / industrial dance / electro scene that I really enjoy because of their unique approach and creative soundscapes.  Few bands manage to have that right combination of both “punchy” and “dreamy”.   This new album has some “retro” sounding synthesizer sounds for sure, but it is not an 80’s throwback by any means.   There are some cool synth melodies and even some video-game-sounding moments, but it still has the edge you’d come to expect.  There are not many vocals on this latest album.   Order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET642/Mind-in-a-Box-RETRO

Pet Shop Boys “Pandemonium / Live In London” (CD+DVD) $22 — This new concert release features both a DVD (NTSC for the USA/Canada) and a CD loaded with many of their hits, including some interesting blends of their songs together.   Great for fans and collectors!  See the track list and Order the CD plus DVD package here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/50999-6-2808323/Pet-Shop-Boys-Pandemonium-Live-in-London-with-DVD

Slave Republic “Electric One” $20 — This is a new act from Europe that is very impressive, sounding a lot like polished veterans.  They have a great blend of synths and guitars and a strong voice with some catchy tunes, reminding me at times of Iris.   You should check out the samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/A120/Slave-Republic-Electric-One

Absurd Minds “Serve or Suffer” (European digipack) $20 — I have a few copies of the European release of this new Absurd Minds album.   This latest offering from one of the cool dark synthpop acts of the last few years will be released in a couple of months in the USA / Canada, but if you don’t want to wait, you can jump on this digipack version right now (limited quantity / will not be back-ordered).   Order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SCAN086/Absurd-Minds-Serve-or-Suffer-European-Digipack

Buggles “Adventures in Modern Recording” (remastered 2CD edition) $22 — This is a “lost album” from 1981 from legendary producer, Trevor Horn’s act, The Buggles.    It has now been remastered and released with bonus tracks for those who have been trying to fill in all the holes in the perfect 80’s synthpop collection.  Order the CD here :

Everybody have a great end-of-the-week and coming weekend!   Thanks again for your much appreciated support!

A Different Drum Update - March 12th, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 1:17 pm

Hello again from A Different Drum!  I got quite a pile of new CD’s in this week, so let us jump into that pile right away!

NEW ARRIVALS:

Galaxy Hunter “Running High” $15 — Already known as one of the premier “spacesynth” acts in the underground, Galaxy Hunter now incorporates more male and female vocals and aims at the retro, Italo-disco audience with a very 80’s sounding album.   Yes, this is a throw-back to a sound from 25 years ago, and they do a great job of it.  Listen to the audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SSR00014/Galaxy-Hunter-Running-High

In Strict Confidence “La Parade Monstrueuse” (Limited Fan Box) $34 — I got just a few of the imported Limited Edition Fan Box of the new In Strict Confidence album for the collectors and fans who would like to pick one up.  These come in a very nice box with a bonus disc featuring 10 extra tracks and a couple video clips.   There are also other printed and promotional extras in there, though I haven’t opened one up to look closely at the contents.   Anyway, once I’ve sold the few copies I have, then I won’t be restocking this rarity, so first come, first serve.   See the track list and order here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MINUS040.2/In-Strict-Confidence-La-Parade-Monstrueuse-Limited-Fan-Box

In Strict Confidence “Silver Bullets” (MCD) $12 — And since these guys are really prolific with their limited edition releases, you can also pick up the limited single for “Silver Bullets” which features 8 tracks, including 5 remixes and 3 bonuses.   You can see that track list and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MINUS039/In-Strict-Confidence-Silver-Bullets

Sadman “9th and Last Life” (limited edition in tin-200 worldwide) $24 — Here is a band from Sweden that I enjoy.  Their first album “Cold in the State of Me” was a nice intro to the band, and this 2nd album builds on their cool sound that blends minimalist synths, dramatic choruses and a quasi-A-Ha vocal sound.  They have moments similar to Michigan or Northern Territories.  I only have a few of the limited edition which comes packaged in a tin along with a band button and extra photo.  There are only 200 of this edition worldwide.  I’ll get the regular edition import a bit later.   Check out the audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MEMO108L/Sadman-9th-and-Last-Life-Limited-Edition-in-Tin-200-Copies

Diorama “Child of Entertainment” (MCD) $11 — This new CD single spotlights a very cool song by one of the dark, semi-gothic synthpop bands in the scene.   It is catchy, danceable, and edgy.   There are 5 versions of the song on the single plus two bonus tracks.  You can listen to the song by watching the video, and you can order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/A119/Diorama-Child-of-Entertainment

State of the Union “Dancing In the Dark” (MCD) $12 — At first I thought I was ordering a new album by State of the Union, but once it arrived I saw that it was a single.   Why the confusion?  Well, there are a whopping 15 tracks on this thing!  They are ALL remixes of the title tracks, so…knock yourself out with this new, import club single!  See the tracks and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/FACT3132/State-of-the-Union-Dancing-In-the-Dark

Destroid “Silent World EP” (CDEP) $14 — This is a project produced by Daniel Myer, the mastermind of Haujobb with nice, deep vocals by Sebastian Ullmann.   This introductory EP features 9 tracks with only a couple of remixes, so it is truly a mini-album.   The title track is the standout synthpop hit.  You can listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SCAN085/Destroid-Silent-World-EP

X-Divide “X (Forever)” (MCD) $12 — This is a new single offering from a new European act produced by Vasi Vallis of Namnambulu and Frozen Plasma, and the sound is noticeably similar to those bands.  There are three versions of the main song, “Forever” plus 3 bonus tracks.   You can listen to the song by watching the video and you can order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/FACT3122/X-Divide-X-Forever

Nitzer Ebb “Catalogue” (5CD) $46 — OK Ebbheads!  This box features 5 of the band’s album all remastered and packaged together for the collectors.   Get all the back catalog from one of the pioneers of EBM!    See the complete track list including bonus tracks and order the box here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/EBBBOX2/Nitzer-Ebb-Catalogue-5-Album-Box

Is that enough new stuff for you?   I hope not, because I’ll undoubtedly have more soon :-)

Thanks for your support, and have a wonderful weekend!

A Different Drum Update - March 6th, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Todd @ 12:56 pm

Hello once again from A Different Drum!  It is time to look over the new items that have rolled into A Different Drum’s store this week.

DE/VISION - limited box…
First of all, I want to state once again (since people keep asking me)– the new DE/VISION “Fan Box” edition of their album will be very expensive (more than $80…probably closer to $90).    They are shipping to me from Europe next week, and once that happens I’ll have a better idea of the exact price because I’ll know the shipping costs.   But I am ONLY selling it right now to people who email me and request to receive one.   So far I have only ordered enough for those people who have contacted me previously about it.  This is because I can’t afford to buy a whole bunch and then find out that I can’t sell them.   It is limited to 1500 copies worldwide, and it includes a bonus single, a flash drive, and supposedly is in very nice packaging (I haven’t seen it yet).   If you want one and have not emailed me yet, then please do so quickly at todd@adifferentdrum.com

B! Machine - new single…
Nate of B! Machine has been releasing some exclusive singles for fans through the band website and there is now a new one:
“A Certain Sadness (Limited Edition CD Single) ” is available for order at www.wishduck.com

It is the second in a series of limited edition CD singles.  A link to the low-grade video tease is:

NEW ARRIVALS:

Interface “Body Flow” MCD $8 — Interface has become one of the better selling futurepop / industrial dance bands sold at A Different Drum, and now they have a new single loaded with remixes of their edgy track, “Body Flow”.   It includes remixes by Level 2.0, Aesthetic Perfection, Sebastian Komor (Icon of Coil, etc.), and others, plus an exclusive track called “Neuromantic”.    Order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/NR042/Interface-Body-Flow

Autodafeh “Identity Unknown” $14 — This new album from Autodafeh is loaded with edgy industrial / EBM tracks to keep you moving.  In case you didn’t know, this is the industrial side project of Endless Shame.   It is not nearly as melodic as the synthpop works of Endless Shame, but fans of one band or the other may find it fun to check out the different styles in these two projects.   Though this new album doesn’t have quite as much of the retro EBM sound that was found on the previous EP, “Re-lectro” it still has some of those great drums and basslines that really make you want to move.    Listen to audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/SIGCD009/Autodafeh-Identity-Unknown

Supercraft “Things We Do” (CDR) $16 — This German import features some really great songs by a dramatic, polished synthpop act that is worth exploring.   The songs are catchy and often powerful.  You can listen to the audio samples and order the CD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/CDL028/Supercraft-Things-We-Do

Moodorgan “Process Remixes Volume 2″ (CDEP) $10 — This is the second EP of remixes and new tracks from Moodorgan over the last couple of years.   The new version of “Treasure” as remixed by Assemblage 23 is a possible club hit, and there are also mixes of several other songs as well as the new song “Remember the Truth” — you can watch a video for that song here, or check out the audio samples and order the CD :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MPLA-BS1128/Moodorgan-Process-Remixes-Volume-2

The Birthday Massacre “Show and Tell” (DVD) $18 — This act has become a very popular band in many circles, from the gothic scene, to synthpop, to retro-80’s new wavers, and even indie rockers.   They have toured extensively and now you can pick up this US-released DVD that features their live performance.     See the track list and order the DVD here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/MET636/The-Birthday-Massacre-Show-and-Tell-Live

NOTE:  Last week I mentioned the new single by Channel East which is really quite fun, like a throwback to the 90’s synthpop underground that so many of us loved.   Well, I failed to upload the samples last week or add a song to the Radio Player .  That has now been remedied and you can listen to samples from the single here :
http://www.adifferentdrum.com/buy/CDL027/Channel-East-Suffering-to-Me

That is all the news from this week.   Thanks so much for your ongoing support!   It means a lot to the artists and to myself that there are still a few of you out there who buy their music and express your appreciation for their efforts through your emails and feedback.

Thanks!
-Todd
